What is a Devotional?

A Devotional is defined on google as “used in religious worship.”

Some call it a spiritual thought.

Some say, it is reading scriptures and pondering thereon.

I say a Devotional, is a Spiritual thought about a Certain Subject, that you discuss and ponder on.

A Family Related activity.

Where Do I Find Devotionals?

This question is where my expertise lies.

I have a whole PAGE of Devotionals.

I come out with Devotionals for every day- and right now, we are in our Christmas Devotional Series.

In this series we are learning about 7 Different Christmas Traditions-

Mary, Joseph, Angels, Shepherd, Wise Men, Lamb, and the Christ Child.

I am finding, that as I create the Devotionals, I am thinking more and more about other families.

My own, of course.

But other families, as well.

How can they benefit from this?

What should I include?

And so in this 7 Traditions in 25 Days Series, I include a Christmas song for Every Day- that goes along with the theme.

I learned some new songs through this process, and I am hoping it helps you do the same!

How Do I Incorporate Devotionals into my Homeschool?

I use it as a beginning to our Homeschool.

I am lucky enough that my husband works close, and so we can all do the devotional before he leaves for work.

We eat, and then I read the Devotional for the day.

I am hoping to start trading off with who is giving the Devotional, but for right now, Just me doing it is fine.

So, we read the Devotional and then have Family prayer.

Then that leads us into our Morning Basket studies!

What are the Benefits of a Morning Basket?

I have written several posts around this subject, because of how much I believe in the concept!!

A List of What is Usually in our Morning Basket

Our Seasonal Morning Basket

But the jist of them is this.

  1. Set their day with the right tone. (Especially with adding Devotionals)
  2. Help us to focus, and to remember why we are homeschooling.
  3. It almost tricks everyone into learning without “Schooling”
  4. I just love the mood it brings to the room.

It benefits the kids, sure. But it also benefits ME. The teacher.

Having a morning basket helps us ease into School, helps us focus, helps us calm down and get into our groove.

I enjoy having a morning basket- and Even more with devotionals.

Later on in the day, when my daughter is STILL talking about the subject of that morning- it reminds ME, and makes me realize just how much it is helping our family.

Having Devotionals in Our Morning Basket

Having Devotionals in our Morning Basket; helps us to keep our Eye on Christ.

When we start the day learning about him, and then Praying for our Homeschool-

It really, really works.

And now that I have dipped my toes into the Ocean of Devotionals-

We will be keeping them around for a long, long time.
