Southern Chocolate Gravy for a Perfect Southern Breakfast

Today, in honor of my son’s 11th birthday, I’m making a classic breakfast from my childhood- chocolate gravy and biscuits. As a kid, this was always my favorite and now it’s my kids favorite. My kids request this anytime I ask what they want for breakfast.

Of course, I have to decline them often because I’d weigh 59,954,785 pounds if I make it everytime they ask.

Some people call it chocolate syrup, but here in the south we call it chocolate gravy. We most often than not eat it with biscuits, but to change things up you can also pour it pound cake, on top of pancakes instead of syrup, or even on ice cream. Basically anything you want to to make good even better.

Perfectly Southern Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits

Warning: Chocolate gravy is not fat free, sugar free, carb free, or any kind of free. It’s full of sugar and carbs. If you’re looking for healthy breakfast ideas leave now before you get sucked into it’s velvety chocolate goodness.

The secret to getting the perfect consistency in this gravy is to keep it stirred the whole time it’s cooking. If you stop stirring it will stick to the bottom of the pan and you’ll have lumpy gravy. Is there anything worse than lumpy gravy? I didn’t think so.

Chocolate gravy is best served with butter to make it even more rich. I mean, butter makes everything better, right?
